Dry kindling is one of the most important parts of starting a successful fire — and one of the easiest things to underestimate. Our kiln-dried kindling is split to a practical finger-width size, dried to below 15% moisture and ready to use straight from the bag.

Each clear bag measures approximately 20 inches (50cm) tall × 12 inches (30cm) wide, giving you a much better idea of how much kindling you're actually ordering. And because the bag is clear, you can see exactly what's inside.

Kindling is a natural product, so its finished weight can vary depending on the timber and how much moisture has been removed during kiln drying. That's why we prefer to show you the actual size of the bag rather than pretend every batch will weigh exactly the same.

Why dry kindling matters

Damp kindling is one of the most common reasons a fire struggles to take hold. Properly dried kindling catches quickly from a firelighter and produces the heat needed to bring your logs up towards ignition temperature — without the repeated lighting, blowing and general negotiations with the fireplace.

How to use it

• Place one or two wax firelighters in the centre of your grate or stove
• Build a loose grid of kindling over the top — two or three layers at 90° angles
• Place a small log on top, leaving plenty of space for airflow
• Light the firelighters from the front and allow the kindling to establish the fire

Dry kindling. Dry logs. Plenty of airflow. Starting a fire really doesn't need to be more complicated than that.
